Electrify Your Strings! (EYS) is a multi-tiered program designed to supplement and enhance your regular music curriculum. This is a unique opportunity to partner with a world-renowned artist such as Mark Wood and students are sure to benefit from the inspiring and motivational techniques he has developed through years of research and experience. Through Marks association with many of the industrys most successful organizations, including the multi platinum-selling Trans-Siberian Orchestra (having performed for over a million people in their annual sold-out arena tours), Celine Dion, and Billy Joel, he can bring a level of expertise and knowledge that will build on the foundation youve created for your students. In a landslide victory, Mark is a proud board member of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA). Here are some of our most requested programs ..and keep in mind that we can tailor EYS to suit YOUR needs!
THE MOST POPULAR: 2-Day Workshop plus Concert With Mark Wood The true leader in his field, Mark Wood will introduce your students to a whole new world of string playing and give them a life-changing experience they will NEVER forget! This program will change their perception of what their instruments are capable of and enlighten them as to how they can access and express their creativity through them. By having students participate in real-life rehearsal and performance situations, Electrify Your Strings! will help you create your very own ROCK ORCHESTRA! Mark will inspire your students with the cutting-edge methods he's developed over the years and will have them demonstrating and applying these techniques, building a bridge to help them connect the classical and contemporary world of string playing; thereby expanding their orchestra horizons! Mark usually brings one or two electric violins for students to try out for themselves (we can even get a full quartet to you if you like!), and several will be chosen to be featured soloists in segments where, with Mark's guidance, they can show off the skills they acquire during the event. The program culminates in a high-energy, high-octane evening concert featuring Mark performing with your students! Your whole community will be "electrified!" Additional topics may include segments on the art of improvisation for acoustic and electric strings, discussions of musical ideas and performance techniques, and if time permits may also include a composition portion in which the students can apply what they learn to create their own piece of music. Prior to his visit, Mark will supply your school with enough material for the entire concert, including full score and all parts, which would be incorporated into your existing curriculum to prepare for the visit. The program culminates in an evening concert extravaganza featuring your students performing alongside Mark! Students chosen during the course of the 2-day program will join him front and center for featured segments during the evening concert.
With Bridgid Bibbens: Bridgid is the newest star of EYS! Fully trained in Mark's methods and techniques, Bridgid brings her own unique style and energy to the program that will have your students jumping out of their seats! She is available to either work with Mark or conduct programs on her own. With vocalist Laura Kaye: Adding a vocal component to your EYS experience brings the level of excitement through the roof! Vocalist Laura Kaye (who has worked with artists such as Lenny Kravitz, James Brown, Aretha Franklin, Mark Wood, and more) will work with your choir to prepare them for the event and choose soloists to be featured in the concert! She will empower and embrace all the singers; teaching them performance techniques, stage presence, and improvisational tips and tricks. With The Mark Wood Experience: This is Mark's amazing touring band and includes vocalist Laura Kaye, as well as drummer Jeff Plate (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, Metal Church, Savatage), guitarist Jon Bivona, bassist Paul Ranieri, and keyboard player Sean Meagher. Each member of the band is available to work with their student counterparts in a master-class type of setting; and is the EYS Experience at its BIGGEST and BEST!
1-Day Workshop Option 1 Workshop plus evening concert: This is a condensed version of the 2-day workshop plus concert described above. The focus of the day would shift to a more rehearsal-oriented approach in preparation for the evening concert but would still include instruction in the key components such as improvisation and performance techniques. Option 2 Workshop only: If you would prefer a 1-day event without a concert, this workshop can serve as a starting point from which we can determine what topics your students respond to and would help shape the curriculum of future visits. Topics explored would be similar to those described above and it may include a short live presentation from Mark to your students to "fire them up!" ![]() Performance/Assembly PLEASE NOTE: This program can only be booked if Mark is already visiting your school for a more in-depth program OR if you are located within a reasonable driving distance from our location. This inspiring event will surely have Mark Wood electrifying your students and administration alike with a powerful solo performance (with backing tracks) on his 7-string fretted Viper electric violin. The presentation includes riveting discussions about the importance of expressing oneself through music and art, improvisational techniques, and much more, and will engage students of every level. A question and answer period follows. This is a perfect way to introduce your entire school to the benefits of bringing Mark in to work with you and your students, and is sure to whet everyone's appetite for more!
Special Instrument Purchase To enhance the ongoing nature of this program and to truly create an ELECTRIC ORCHESTRA of your very own, our suggestion would be for your school to purchase an assortment of Wood electric violins, violas, and/or cellos from us. We can offer special educator discounts. "Suffice to say, it was all
worth every ounce of effort. To see close to 200 performers ranging from 2nd to
12th grades, and several alumni and faculty members as well, with smiles as
wide as a Viper, playing to a packed house of around 800, is a picture that I
will treasure for a lifetime!"

In early 2008, Mark was elected to the board of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA), where he will have the opportunity to affect the future of progressive string education in the USA on a truly grand scale. And as educators across the country are quickly catching on to the importance of incorporating alternative teaching methods into their curriculum, Marks Electrify Your Strings series of music education programs have become enormously successful and in demand. EYS has really captured the medias attention and has been featured on several national broadcasts of CBS Evening News, along with segments on ABC-TV, NBC-TV, CNN, and many others. EYS has been brought to over 100 schools in the US, including the Berklee School of Music, The Juilliard School, Oneonta University, The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and many others. In addition, along with such formidable colleagues as Arnold Steinhardt of the Guarnari String Quartet, Isaac Stern, and Yo Yo Ma, he is an instructor of a special course at the annual Mark O'Connor Fiddle Camps held in Nashville and San Diego.
